The opening of ‘”Dumitru Panaitescu Perpessicius” Permanent Memorial Exhibition’ on the 28th October 1977, in 70, Cetatii Street, marked the inauguration of the Memorial Section of Braila Museum. In time, the section grew not only by the addition of new memorial houses, but also through a number of purchased and transferred items or objects received from donations. ‘Panait Istrati’ Memorial House is opened on the 10th August 1984, in the Public Garden, one of the writer’s favourite places. The acquisition of some objects which belonged to Vasile Bancila, the philosopher born in Braila, made possible the inauguration, on December 1996 of an Exhibition Hall called ‘Vasile Bancila’ in 32, Caragiale Street. A year later, through the purchase of several objects from Nae Ionescu’s descendants and as a consequence of the important donation made by Anton Dumitriu’s wife, the building situated in 32, Caragiale Street, dedicated two other rooms to these thinkers. That is how, on the 6th December 1997, ‘Nae Ionescu, Vasile Bancila and Anton Dumitriu’ Memorial Center was inaugurated. The retrocession of the building to its former owners triggered the closing of the Memorial Center in May 2004. The inventory objects were taken out and deposited some other place, the local authorities remaining to allocate a new building to the Centre.
